What is HCG?
HCG is a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone made of an α-subunit shared with LH, FSH and TSH, and a unique β-subunit. It is naturally produced by the placenta during pregnancy.
Mechanism of Action
HCG binds the luteinising-hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor (LHCGR), stimulating testosterone production in Leydig cells and progesterone production in the corpus luteum.
Research Applications
HCG is used in reproductive-endocrinology research, including studies of gonadal function, steroidogenesis and the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis.
Storage & Handling
Supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder for maximum stability. Store unopened vials at -20°C, protected from light. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, keep refrigerated at 2–8°C and use within the timeframe appropriate to your study protocol.
