What is Semax?
Semax is a synthetic peptide derived from the adrenocorticotropic-hormone fragment ACTH(4-7), extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence that improves stability. It has no hormonal (corticotropic) activity.
Mechanism of Action
Semax increases expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor TrkB, modulates dopaminergic and serotonergic signalling, and shows antioxidant and neuroprotective effects in models of ischaemia.
Research Applications
Semax is studied in research on cognition, memory, attention, stroke recovery and neuroprotection.
